In a major action following the NEET paper leak controversy, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has terminated 47 officials as part of a large scale overhaul to restore trust in India’s examination system. The government is also expected to initiate legal and criminal proceedings against officials found responsible for lapses in conducting the examination.
The decision follows months of criticism over the alleged paper leak, which led to the cancellation of the original NEET-UG 2026 examination and a nationwide re-examination. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is continuing its investigation into the case.
As part of its reforms, the NTA is restructuring its operations by appointing specialists in cybersecurity, forensic investigation, test centre management and assessment research to strengthen exam security and prevent future irregularities.
The action comes amid continued student protests demanding accountability and comprehensive reforms in the examination system. The government says the steps are aimed at improving transparency, strengthening security and restoring public confidence in national entrance examinations.
