Jordan: Jordanian security forces have arrested three suspects in connection with a deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church in the country’s Karak Governorate that killed nine people and injured dozens, according to media reports.
The attack took place on October 23 at a church in Hamoud village, where gunmen reportedly opened fire during a funeral gathering. The incident left nine people dead and several others injured.
According to reports, security forces located the three suspects hiding in an abandoned house during an operation early Monday. The suspects allegedly opened fire when officers ordered them to surrender. Security personnel returned fire, wounded the suspects and subsequently arrested them. Firearms and ammunition were also reportedly recovered.
Jordanian authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the suspect possible motives and any links to extremist organisations. However, their alleged affiliations and the precise motive have not been independently established publicly.
The attack has raised concerns in Jordan, where incidents of this nature are relatively uncommon. Authorities have condemned the violence and pledged to take action against those responsible.
The investigation remains ongoing and further details about the suspects and the circumstances of the attack are awaited.
