On August 15, India celebrates 79 years of Independence and 80 years of its journey as a free nation.
We have come a long way.
From limited infrastructure and a struggling economy, India has emerged as one of the world’s major economies, a global technology hub and a growing force in space, defence, digital payments and innovation.
Our highways are expanding. Airports and metros are transforming cities. Digital technology is reaching millions. Indian companies are competing globally.
But Independence Day is not only a day to celebrate what we have achieved. It is also a day to ask what still needs to change.
Growth Must Create Opportunities
India’s economy is growing, but growth must translate into Quality jobs, Better wages and opportunities for our young population.
AI and automation are changing the employment landscape. Our answer should not be to fear technology, but to prepare our people through better education, skills and training.
Infrastructure Must Improve Lives
- A developed nation needs more than highways and airports.
- It needs clean cities, reliable public transport, safe roads, proper drainage, affordable housing and efficient public services.
Development must reach the ordinary citizen.
Technology Must Serve Everyone
India’s digital transformation is a success story. But the next challenge is ensuring that technology does not create a wider gap between those who have skills and those who do not.
Digital progress must become human progress.
Politics Must Unite, Not Divide
- Democracy is India’s greatest strength.
- Political competition is necessary. But constant confrontation, misinformation and community based division weaken the nation.
- We can disagree politically without becoming enemies socially.
India’s diversity is our strength not a weapon.
The Real Comparison
We should compare India with developed countries—but not only to ask who has bigger economies, taller buildings or faster trains.
We should ask:
- Are our children getting better education?
- Are our young people finding meaningful jobs?
- Are our cities becoming cleaner and safer?
- Are institutions becoming stronger?
- Are communities living together peacefully?
That is the real test of development.
The India We Want
- India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047 is achievable.
- But a developed India must be more than economically powerful.
It must be Prosperous, Technologically advanced, Employment rich, Socially peaceful and institutionally strong.
- We have built a stronger India.
- Now, we must build a better India.
- This Independence Day, let us celebrate our achievements but also have the courage to acknowledge our shortcomings.
- Because patriotism is not saying that everything is perfect.
Patriotism is believing India can become better and working to make it happen.
