The Hyderabad City Police’s SHE Teams apprehended 678 men for alleged eve teasing, stalking, harassment, inappropriate touching and other misconduct during the Bonalu festival across the city. The large scale operation was carried out to ensure the safety of women and children attending the celebrations.
The Women & Child Safety Wing intensified surveillance at temples, procession routes, bus stops, Metro stations, marketplaces and other crowded locations. Officers in plain clothes, supported by video surveillance, monitored suspicious activity and took immediate action against offenders caught harassing women. A total of 122 complaints were received during the festival.
According to police, 25 offenders were convicted by courts and sentenced to imprisonment along with fines. In addition, 13 other cases investigated by the SHE Teams also resulted in convictions due to timely investigation and effective prosecution. Several offenders were booked under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Hyderabad City Police Act.
Among those convicted, 11 offenders received up to three days of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,050 each. Another 26 offenders were fined ₹1,050 each and ordered by the court to perform community service, reinforcing Hyderabad Police’s zero tolerance policy towards crimes against women.
Apart from enforcement, the SHE Teams conducted more than 400 awareness programmes and 110 surveillance activities across temples, educational institutions, public transport hubs, and commercial areas. These campaigns focused on women’s safety, cyber safety, emergency helplines and encouraging victims to report offences without hesitation.
Hyderabad Police said strict action will continue against anyone involved in harassment or stalking, especially during major public events, and urged citizens to promptly report any such incidents.
