GHMC Garbage Truck Raises Serious Questions Over Exposed Waste and Concealed Number Plate

GHMC Garbage Truck Raises Safety Concerns Over Exposed Waste
Spread the love

A garbage transportation vehicle seen operating on a Hyderabad road has raised serious concerns over road safety, civic accountability and compliance with basic vehicle regulations.

The vehicle, seen carrying a large quantity of garbage, appears to be overloaded, with waste piled well above the sides of the truck and several items visibly exposed. Such transportation creates the risk of garbage falling onto the road, scattering into the surroundings and endangering motorists, particularly two wheeler riders.

More seriously, the photograph also appears to show the vehicle’s rear registration number plate being obstructed or concealed by the vehicle’s structure and markings. A vehicle operating on public roads should have its registration number clearly visible and identifiable. If the number plate is indeed being deliberately or improperly obscured, it raises an additional and serious question about enforcement and accountability.

Civic vehicle, but who is monitoring it?

The incident is particularly concerning because this is a vehicle being used for a public sanitation service. Government and municipal vehicles cannot be allowed to operate on city roads without complying with basic safety requirements.

An improperly secured load can result in:

➤ Garbage falling onto the road and causing accidents.

➤ Plastic and other waste being scattered across public areas.

➤ Leaking waste creating unhygienic and potentially slippery road conditions.

➤ Increased risk to motorists travelling behind or alongside the vehicle.

➤ Difficulty identifying the vehicle if its registration number is not clearly visible.

Strong questions for GHMC

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation should take this matter seriously and clarify:

➤ Why was a garbage vehicle carrying exposed and apparently excessive waste allowed on the road?

➤ Was the vehicle inspected before being deployed?

➤ Why does the rear registration plate appear to be obstructed?

➤ Who is responsible for monitoring the vehicle and its operation?

➤ Is the vehicle being operated by GHMC directly or through a private contractor?

➤ If a contractor is responsible, what action will be taken for violations of safety and transportation norms?

Rules should apply to everyone

Citizens are routinely expected to follow traffic and vehicle regulations. Municipal vehicles performing essential services should not be given a free pass to ignore basic safety requirements.

If a private vehicle were found carrying an unsecured load or operating with an obscured registration plate, authorities could initiate enforcement action. The same standards must apply to vehicles operating under municipal contracts.

This incident therefore deserves more than a routine explanation. GHMC should identify the vehicle, verify the registration plate issue, examine whether the garbage load exceeded permitted limits and determine whether any officials or contractors failed in their responsibilities.

GHMC must ensure accountability

Hyderabad needs a clean and safe waste management system not garbage trucks that potentially create another public hazard while transporting waste.

If the violations seen in the photograph are confirmed, strict action should be taken against the responsible agency and officials, rather than allowing such practices to continue.

Business Galaxy demands accountability: Civic responsibility begins with the civic authorities themselves.
