Hyderabad: The Sultan Bazar Police of Hyderabad arrested a driver accused of stealing ₹5.5 lakh from his employer and recovered ₹5,04,900 in cash along with two mobile phones purchased using the stolen money, the accused’s mobile phone, and the vehicle key.
The accused, identified as Kuthadi Hari Kumar (33), was employed as a driver by a businessman. According to police, the theft took place on July 9 at Bank Street, Koti, when the businessman parked his car and went shopping. Hari Kumar allegedly retained the vehicle keys, stole the cash kept inside the car and fled to Kurnool.
Following the complaint, Sultan Bazar Police registered a case under Crime No. 224/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Using technical evidence and intelligence inputs, police tracked and arrested the accused at Shadnagar Bus Stand. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that financial difficulties and dissatisfaction over his salary motivated him to commit the theft.
Police recovered ₹5,04,900 of the stolen cash, along with two mobile phones allegedly purchased using the stolen money, the accused’s mobile phone, and the vehicle key.
Officials also revealed that the accused has a criminal history involving serious offences, including Murder, Theft and Escape from judicial custody.
The case was solved by the Sultan Bazar Police under the supervision of senior officers of the Khairatabad Zone.
