The Telangana government has introduced the Telangana Family Register and launched a new Family Register Certificate through the MeeSeva platform. The certificate is intended to provide citizens with an authenticated record of their family details and is among the documents accepted for the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
According to a government order issued on July 25, the Family Register will be maintained in electronic form using data from the state’s Food Security (Ration Card) database. Each family’s register will include the Family Register Identification Number (same as the ration card number), names of family members, relationship to the Head of the family, Age, Date of birth, Gender, Aadhaar number and Residential address.
Citizens can apply for the Family Register Certificate through any MeeSeva Centre, the MeeSeva online portal, or the mobile application. Only an adult family member whose details are recorded in the register is eligible to apply. The certificate carries a service charge of ₹62 and is expected to be issued within two working days after verification by the concerned Tahsildar.
The government clarified that the certificate is only an official record of family composition. It does not determine legal heirship, property ownership, or eligibility for government welfare schemes.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi welcomed the initiative, stating that it would help poor and undocumented citizens during the SIR process. He said the certificate is one of the accepted documents for voter verification and appreciated the Telangana government’s decision.
