Delhi Police have begun issuing notices to social media platforms seeking the removal of posts, videos, and comments containing abusive or objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi that were shared during and after the recent student protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
According to police officials, a dedicated Social Media Monitoring Team reviewed online content linked to the protests and identified several posts that they believe violate applicable rules. Notices have been sent to social media intermediaries requesting the removal of such content. Several posts have already been taken down following these notices.
Police said the monitoring exercise is continuing and that authorities are examining additional posts, videos, and comments uploaded during and after the demonstrations. Officials said they are also assessing whether any content violated the law or had the potential to disturb public order.
The action comes after large-scale student protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and the “Sansad Chalo” march, during which protests turned violent in parts of the national capital. Authorities say the online monitoring is aimed at identifying content they consider abusive or unlawful in connection with those events.
The police have not publicly disclosed the exact legal provisions under which the notices were issued. The move has drawn attention as part of the broader debate over online speech, content moderation, and enforcement during politically sensitive events.
