Senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Dr K. Srikar Reddy, a native of Telangana, has been named as India’s next Ambassador to Qatar. He is currently serving as the Consul General of India in San Francisco and is expected to assume his new role in Doha after completing official formalities.
Dr K. Srikar Reddy is a 2001-batch IFS officer from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district in Telangana and an alumnus of Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal. During his diplomatic career, he has served in Indian missions at the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO), Germany, Switzerland, Vietnam, and the United States.
He is known for his contribution to India’s international trade negotiations, including the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the India-Mauritius Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA). He also served as the Regional Passport Officer in Hyderabad, where the Regional Passport Office received the Passport Seva Puraskar in 2013.
Dr K. Srikar Reddy’s appointment comes at a time when India and Qatar are strengthening cooperation in trade, energy, investment, and people-to-people ties. Qatar is home to nearly 8 lakh Indians, including a large number from Telangana, making the diplomatic relationship especially significant.
