US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran privately sought negotiations with Washington, saying Tehran had “Begged” for talks while publicly denying any contact. Trump accused the Iranian leadership of sending mixed signals and warned that the United States would continue its pressure campaign until Iran either agrees to a deal or accepts what he described as “total surrender“
According to Trump, he decided to cancel a planned large scale US military strike because he believed diplomacy still had a chance. He said discussions with Iran were expected to begin and maintained that the US remains open to negotiations if Tehran changes its position. At the same time, Trump warned that if no agreement is reached, Washington is prepared to take stronger military action.
Iran’s Response
Iran has firmly rejected Trump’s claims, stating that it has neither requested nor scheduled any negotiations with the United States. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said there are no direct or indirect talks underway with Washington and described Trump’s statements as false.
Iranian officials also dismissed Trump’s assertion that Tehran had “Begged” for talks. They said Iran’s armed forces remain on full operational readiness and emphasized that the country will continue to defend its sovereignty against any threat. Officials added that the only ongoing diplomatic discussions involve Oman and concern maritime issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, not negotiations with the United States.
