Iranian officials have rejected US President Donald Trump’s statement that Tehran requested a pause in a planned American military attack, insisting that no such request was made and that the country’s armed forces remain on full combat readiness.
Trump had earlier said he decided to halt a planned US strike after receiving indications that Iran and several regional countries wanted more time to finalize a diplomatic agreement aimed at easing tensions. He also suggested that negotiations could lead to the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iranian officials strongly denied Trump’s claims. They stated that Iran had not asked the United States to stop any military action and dismissed suggestions that an agreement had been reached to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s military said its forces remain at the “highest level of readiness” and are fully prepared to respond to any possible attack. Officials described Trump’s remarks as psychological pressure intended to influence public opinion and ongoing diplomatic efforts.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of tension in the region. The waterway is one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes, and any disruption could significantly affect global energy supplies and fuel prices.
Despite the sharp exchange of statements, diplomatic efforts involving regional mediators, including Oman, are continuing in an attempt to reduce tensions and prevent further military escalation. However, both Washington and Tehran remain divided over the status of negotiations and the future of the Strait of Hormuz.
