What Do the Latest GST Figures Indicate?
- The October figures indicate an increase in tax revenue and continued growth in reported economic transactions.
- The stronger performance of import related GST collections compared with domestic collections is also an important feature of this month’s data.
- However, higher GST collections alone do not establish an equivalent increase in real economic growth or household purchasing power. Import values, consumption patterns, tax compliance and other economic factors can influence monthly revenue.
- The coming months GST figures will provide further insight into domestic demand, business activity and the impact of festive-season spending.
