Houthis Launch Missile Attack on Israel, Announce Red Sea Shipping Ban

Houthis Launch Missile Attack on Israel

Yemen’s Iran backed Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a missile attack on Israel and announced a ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

The Houthis said their forces launched missiles targeting what they described as sensitive sites in central Israel, including the Tel Aviv Jaffa area. Israeli authorities reported air-raid alerts following the attack, while no immediate casualties were reported.

In a separate announcement, the group declared that Israeli linked vessels would no longer be permitted to operate in the Red Sea and warned that such ships could become targets. The move raises concerns about renewed disruption to one of the world’s most important shipping routes, through which large volumes of global trade and energy supplies pass.

The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, is a critical maritime chokepoint. Any escalation in attacks on shipping could affect international trade flows and increase pressure on global energy markets.

The Houthi announcement comes as fighting between Israel and Iran intensifies, with both countries exchanging missile and air strikes. The group said its actions were in support of what it called the “Axis of Resistance,” which includes Iran and allied regional groups.

The latest developments have heightened fears of a broader regional conflict involving multiple fronts, including Yemen, Lebanon and the Red Sea. Analysts warn that any sustained disruption to maritime traffic could have significant economic and security implications beyond the Middle East.
