Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into a series of incidents during the Monsoon Session of the Telangana Assembly, including alleged derogatory remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and a controversy involving the alleged “Purification” of a place near former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse after Dalit protesters had visited the area.
Speaking in the Assembly, Revanth Reddy said criminal cases would be registered against those found responsible and that action would be taken according to law.
The Chief Minister strongly condemned the alleged treatment to Dalit protesters. He said there was no need to “Purify” the ground where Dalits had walked and argued that discriminatory thinking and what he described as a “Manuvadi mindset” needed to be changed.
The controversy reportedly arose after Dalit activists attempted to stage a democratic protest near the farmhouse using traditional drums. Revanth Reddy said treating the protesters disrespectfully and subsequently undertaking a purification exercise was unacceptable and inhuman.
Speaker Controversy
- Revanth Reddy also condemned alleged abusive and derogatory remarks directed at Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar and remarks concerning his mother.
- He said insulting the Speaker was not merely an attack on an individual but an insult to the dignity of the democratic institution. The Chief Minister assured the Speaker that the government would stand firmly behind him.
- Revanth Reddy said democratic protests could be conducted through legitimate means, but insulting the Speaker and attacking the dignity of constitutional institutions could not be justified.
Alleged Conspiracy to Disrupt Assembly Proceedings
- The Chief Minister also alleged that a conspiracy had been planned at a farmhouse with the intention of disrupting Assembly proceedings.
- However, these allegations are part of the political controversy and will be subject to the inquiry announced by the government.
- Revanth Reddy said the government would investigate the circumstances surrounding the incidents and take action against anyone found responsible.
Public Issues Raised in Assembly
- The Chief Minister further said the government had intended to discuss several important public issues during the Monsoon Session.
- These included concerns related to the education sector, issues surrounding Dharani and the 22(A) land category, and other matters raised by Opposition members.
- According to Revanth Reddy, attempts were allegedly made to obstruct discussions on these public issues.
- The Chief Minister reiterated that the government would conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incidents and ensure that those found guilty would face action according to law.
