Indian Railways Rolls Out TAG 2026

Indian Railways has released its new Timetable of Trains (TAG) 2026, marking a significant upgrade to rail services across the country. This update aims to enhance connectivity, reduce travel times, improve punctuality, and provide better overall service for passengers.

New Services and Extensions

  • A total of 122 new trains have been introduced, covering a mix of premium, express, and passenger services.
  • These additions include 28 Vande Bharat Express trains, 26 Amrit Bharat Express services, 60 mail/express trains, and other services such as Rajdhani, Jan Shatabdi, Humsafar, and Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services.
  • In addition to new trains, 86 existing services have been extended, and 8 trains have increased frequency.
  • 10 trains have been upgraded to Superfast status, offering faster travel where possible.

Speed Enhancements Across Network

Under TAG 2026, 549 trains nationwide have had their schedules adjusted to achieve faster travel times, including:

  • 376 trains sped up by 5 – 15 minutes
  • 105 trains sped up by 16 – 30 minutes
  • 48 trains sped up by 31 – 59 minutes
  • 20 trains sped up by 60 minutes or more

These improvements aim to boost punctuality and operational efficiency.

Zone Wise Implementation

The timetable changes have been implemented across all major railway zones. Some highlights:

  • South Western Railway (SWR) leads in speed enhancements, with 117 trains sped up and several new services.
  • North Western Railway (NWR) followed with 89 trains accelerated.
  • Western Railway (WR) and Southern Railway (SR) also reported significant increases in speed and additional services.

These efforts support better connectivity across regions and improve travel options for commuters.
