Xi Jinping Expected to Visit US This Autumn After Trump Invitation

US-China Both leaders discussed trade

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to pay a state visit to the United States this autumn at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump. The announcement was reported by China’s state news agency Xinhua following high level talks between the two leaders in Beijing.

The planned visit comes after Donald Trump completed a major diplomatic visit to China this week, where both leaders held extensive discussions on trade, Taiwan, artificial intelligence, the Iran conflict and global security issues.

According to Wang Yi, Trump formally invited Xi Jinping and his wife during a banquet in Beijing and both sides agreed to maintain close communication through meetings, phone calls and diplomatic exchanges.

Key Issues Discussed

  •  Trade and economic cooperation between the U.S. and China.
  •  The Taiwan issue and regional security in Asia.
  •  The ongoing Iran war and stability in the Strait of Hormuz.
  •  Artificial intelligence, technology exports, and investment.
  •  Military tensions and diplomatic coordination.

Trump claimed that “many problems” were settled during the summit and said China could increase investments and purchases from the United States.

Iran Conflict and Global Security

The Iran conflict became one of the biggest discussion points during the summit. Trump said Xi Jinping expressed support for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and helping reduce tensions in the region.

Reports also suggested China assured the United States that it would not provide military equipment to Iran during the ongoing conflict.

Taiwan Remains a Sensitive Issue

Taiwan remained one of the most sensitive topics during the meetings. Xi reportedly warned that mishandling the Taiwan issue could create serious conflict, while Trump avoided giving a clear commitment on future U.S. weapons sales to Taiwan.

Why the Visit Matters

If the visit takes place, it would mark one of the most important U.S.-China diplomatic meetings in recent years and could shape future relations between the world’s two largest economies.

Analysts say the planned autumn visit may focus on:

  •  Stabilizing U.S.-China relations.
  •  Reducing trade tensions.
  •  Managing military competition in Asia.
  •  Coordinating on Iran and global security issues.
  •  Expanding economic and technology cooperation.

The announcement signals a possible easing of tensions between Washington and Beijing after years of disputes over trade, technology restrictions, Taiwan and geopolitical rivalry.
