Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has challenged Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to attend the Telangana Legislative Assembly session in September and debate the record of the BRS government’s 10 year tenure.
The challenge comes amid an increasingly aggressive political exchange between the ruling Congress and the BRS over farmers welfare, government schemes, employment, infrastructure and governance.
Revanth Reddy seeks debate with KCR
Speaking at a public meeting in Sangareddy on August 15, Revanth Reddy said the upcoming Assembly session should provide an opportunity to compare the performance of the previous BRS government with that of the Congress government.
The Chief Minister specifically challenged KCR to participate in the discussion and defend the record of the BRS administration. The Assembly is expected to meet in September.
Revanth Reddy has repeatedly argued that his government should be judged against the previous administration’s 10 year record rather than only the period since Congress came to power.
Farmers’ welfare at the centre of the debate
The Chief Minister focused heavily on agriculture and farmers welfare.
According to Revanth Reddy, the Congress government has spent around ₹1.70 lakh crore on farmers during its first two and a half years in office.
He highlighted several measures, including:

Revanth Reddy said Rythu Bharosa assistance had been increased to ₹12,000 and claimed that about ₹36,000 crore had been deposited into farmers accounts under the scheme.
He also claimed that ₹21,000 crore had been spent on waiving farm loans of up to ₹2 lakh. These figures are claims made by the Chief Minister and should be assessed against official government records.
BRS hits back
The BRS has rejected the Congress government’s claims and accused Revanth Reddy of making misleading statements about welfare programmes.
Former minister and senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao challenged the Chief Minister over the implementation of the farm loan waiver.
Harish Rao specifically questioned whether all eligible farmers had received the promised benefit and challenged Revanth Reddy to discuss the issue in the Assembly. He said he would resign as an MLA if it was established that every farmer in the Chief Minister’s native village, Kondareddy Palle, had received the loan waiver.
Housing and other welfare schemes become political flashpoints
The political confrontation extends beyond agriculture.
Revanth Reddy has also criticised the previous BRS government over the implementation of the double bedroom housing programme, alleging that many eligible families were left without homes despite promises made by the previous administration.
The Congress government has presented housing, welfare delivery, employment and farmer support as key areas where it says it is attempting to establish a different governance model.
Employment becomes another battleground
Revanth Reddy also used the Sangareddy meeting to highlight government recruitment.
He claimed that approximately 72,000 government jobs had been filled during the first two and a half years of the Congress government, with recruitment notifications issued for another 10,000 posts.
He said recruitment processes would be conducted regularly and urged young people to concentrate on competitive examinations.
