Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered a criminal case against two individuals after a video showing a woman sitting on the rooftop of an illegally modified car while it was being driven on the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Road went viral on social media.
According to police, the incident came to light after a video uploaded on X (formerly Twitter) on July 14, 2026, showed a car bearing registration number TG 08 AG 92XX travelling towards Shamshabad with a woman seated on its rooftop.
During the investigation, police identified the driver as G. Sai Tharun and the passenger as V. Lakshmi Priyanka (30), an IT employee and a native of Prakasam district. Officials found that the vehicle had been illegally modified by removing or opening its roof, making it an unauthorized open-top vehicle.
Police stated that such unauthorized vehicle modifications, combined with negligent driving, pose a serious threat to the safety of occupants as well as other road users.
Based on a complaint lodged by the RGIA Traffic Police Station, a case has been registered at RGI Airport Police Station in Crime No. 653/2026 under Section 125 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against G. Sai Tharun and V. Lakshmi Priyanka. Further investigation is underway.
Hyderabad Traffic Police have urged motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations and refrain from making unauthorized modifications to vehicles or engaging in dangerous road behaviour. Officials warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators to ensure road safety.
