The 69 foot Khairatabad Bada Ganesh idol, depicting Panchamukha Sankatahara Maha Ganapati, a five faced form of Lord Ganesha, was immersed in Hussain Sagar on Friday, September 25, marking the culmination of this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The iconic idol attracted thousands of devotees during the festival. The immersion procession began from Khairatabad and proceeded through major city routes before reaching NTR Marg and Hussain Sagar.
The idol was crafted using materials including natural clay, sand, steel and paddy straw. Eco-friendly, water based colours were also used in its preparation.
More than 150 artisans from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu were involved in creating the massive idol. The structure featured five faces, six hands and a five-headed serpent canopy.
The celebrations also featured a 15 foot Somnath Jyotirlinga and a depiction of Kalika Mata alongside the main idol.
Special prayers were held before the immersion. The idol was immersed at Hussain Sagar with the assistance of heavy duty cranes.
Hyderabad Police and traffic authorities made extensive security and traffic arrangements along the procession route. Thousands of devotees gathered to witness the procession and immersion.
The immersion concluded peacefully, marking the end of another major Ganesh festival at Khairatabad.
