Jerusalem: The Israeli military said it intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the Israel-Syria border on Sunday, adding that the origin of the drone’s launch is still under investigation.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the UAV was detected approaching Israeli airspace before it was intercepted by the country’s air defense systems. Officials stated that the incident occurred near the border with Syria and that security forces are examining where the drone was launched from and who was responsible.

The military said the interception was carried out as a precaution to prevent any potential threat to Israeli territory. No casualties or property damage were reported following the incident.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the UAV originated from Syria or another location. Investigators are reviewing radar data, intelligence inputs and operational information to determine the drone’s point of origin and intended mission.

The incident comes amid continued security tensions along Israel’s northern frontier, where the military remains on high alert due to regional instability and the risk of cross border attacks involving drones, rockets and other aerial threats.

The Israeli military said it will continue to monitor developments along its borders and take necessary measures to protect its territory and civilians. Further details are expected once the investigation into the drone’s origin is completed.
