Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that the Israeli military’s capture of the historic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon marks a “dramatic shift” in Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah.

In a video statement released on Sunday, Netanyahu said the operation reflects a new phase in Israel’s military strategy, emphasizing that Israeli forces are now taking the initiative across multiple fronts in the region.

“Today, we have returned to Beaufort in a different way. We have returned united, determined and stronger than ever” Netanyahu said. He added that the capture of the strategic fortress represents a major change in policy and demonstrates Israel’s willingness to expand operations in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza.

Beaufort Castle, a centuries-old hilltop fortress overlooking southern Lebanon, holds significant military value due to its strategic location. Israeli forces reportedly captured the site during an expanded offensive aimed at dismantling Hezbollah positions and infrastructure in the region.

The operation is being described as Israel’s deepest incursion into Lebanon in more than 26 years. The Israeli military said it targeted Hezbollah strongholds near the Litani River and surrounding areas, while issuing evacuation warnings to civilians in parts of southern Lebanon.

The escalation has drawn international concern, with several countries urging restraint amid fears of a broader regional conflict. Lebanese officials have condemned the operation, while diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.
