New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has introduced stricter rules governing the resignation and release of employees after more than 100 scientists, engineers, and technical personnel reportedly left the organisation in recent years, including individuals associated with critical space missions.
According to the revised policy, employees working on strategic or mission-critical projects may no longer receive immediate acceptance of their resignations. Instead, resignations will be reviewed more carefully, and employees may be required to serve extended notice periods or remain in service until key project milestones are completed.
The move is aimed at preventing disruption to ongoing national space programmes, protecting institutional expertise, and ensuring continuity in high-priority missions. ISRO officials believe that the departure of experienced personnel can affect the execution of complex projects that require years of planning and specialized knowledge.
The new guidelines also seek to strengthen workforce planning by allowing ISRO to better manage the transition of employees and minimize the impact of attrition on future launches, satellite development, and scientific research.
The policy comes at a time when India’s space sector is expanding rapidly, with growing opportunities in private aerospace companies and startups attracting skilled professionals from government organizations. While ISRO continues to support career growth and innovation, the organisation has emphasized that safeguarding national missions remains its top priority.
The revised exit policy is expected to help maintain the stability of India’s ambitious space programme as ISRO prepares for upcoming satellite launches, deep-space exploration projects, human spaceflight initiatives under Gaganyaan, and other strategic missions.
