New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has termed the Supreme Court’s interim order on cases related to recent student protests as “Unacceptable” claiming it contradicts assurances previously given by the Centre during talks with the organisation.
CJP leaders said the government had promised to withdraw all FIRs against protesters, release those detained and avoid registering fresh cases. They alleged these commitments have not been fully implemented and demanded immediate action.
The Supreme Court, while granting interim relief, directed that no coercive action be taken against many protesters and ordered the release of minors and individuals without criminal antecedents. However, the court clarified that the protection would not extend to those with criminal backgrounds and indicated it may consider an independent probe into allegations of police excesses.
CJP warned that if the Centre fails to honour its assurances and provide a written commitment, it will launch fresh nationwide peaceful protests. Meanwhile, Delhi Police have maintained heightened security in anticipation of possible demonstrations.
