The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 485 people for driving under the influence of alcohol during a special two day enforcement drive conducted on July 31 and August 1. The operation was carried out across the city as part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by drunk driving.
Among those caught, 381 were riding two-wheelers, 59 were driving four wheelers, and 45 were operating three wheelers, including auto rickshaws. Police said offenders had varying levels of Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC), with some recording extremely high alcohol levels. Eight drivers registered BAC levels above 300 mg/100 ml, indicating severe intoxication.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that there will be zero tolerance for drunk driving violations. Officials warned that anyone who causes a fatal accident while driving under the influence of alcohol can be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison.
In a separate enforcement drive, the Cyberabad Police also booked 333 motorists for drunk driving over the same weekend, highlighting intensified action against traffic violations across the Hyderabad metropolitan area.
