US President Donald Trump said that discussions with Iran have been progressing positively, describing the talks as “very good” but warned that the United States could launch further strikes if Tehran does not agree to a deal.
Trump said Iran’s nuclear programme and broader security issues remain central to negotiations. However, he renewed threats against strategic Iranian targets, including Pickaxe Mountain, bridges and power plants, if diplomatic efforts fail.
The remarks came ahead of Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where Iran is expected to be a major topic of discussion.
Iran’s response
Iranian officials said they are open to diplomacy but rejected what they called threats and pressure from the United States. Tehran has maintained that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes and said any agreement must respect Iran’s sovereignty and national interests.
Iran has also warned that military action would have serious consequences and said it would respond to any attack.
