Hyderabad City Police have urged residents to exercise caution while hiring domestic workers after recording 565 theft cases involving domestic helps over the past two years. Police said many of these incidents could have been prevented through proper background verification and identity checks.

➤ Hyderabad recorded 565 servant theft cases in the last two years.
➤ The cases include 65 grave offences and 500 non-grave offences.
➤ Jubilee Hills Zone reported the highest number of cases with 173 incidents.
➤ Secunderabad recorded 88 cases, followed by Khairatabad (77), Golconda (70), Rajendranagar (63), Shamshabad (49) and Charminar (45).
Police Advisory
Hyderabad Police said IT professionals, students living alone, and senior citizens are among the most vulnerable targets. According to police, some domestic workers gain the trust of employers, observe where valuables are kept and later commit theft.
Police have advised citizens to:
➤ Verify the identity and address of domestic workers before hiring.
➤ Conduct police background verification.
➤ Avoid hiring workers without valid identification documents.
➤ Keep cash, jewellery, and other valuables securely locked.
➤ Report suspicious activity or the sudden disappearance of domestic workers immediately to the police.
Awareness Campaign
Hyderabad City Police announced that they will conduct awareness programmes in Gated communities, Apartments, Offices and Commercial establishments to educate residents about safe hiring practices and crime prevention.
