The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on Monday with noisy scenes and repeated disruptions, forcing both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to adjourn multiple times as Opposition parties pressed the government on several contentious issues.
Opposition MPs demanded an immediate discussion on the NEET examination controversy, alleging irregularities and seeking greater transparency in the conduct of medical entrance exams. They also raised concerns over the management and transparency of donations made to the Ram Temple trust, calling for accountability.
Another major issue raised in both Houses was the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. Opposition leaders demanded an explanation from the government regarding his custody and sought an urgent discussion on the matter, arguing that it involved democratic rights and freedom of expression.
As soon as proceedings began, Opposition members entered the Well of the House, raised slogans and displayed placards, leading to repeated interruptions. Despite appeals from the Speaker in the Lok Sabha and the Chairman in the Rajya Sabha to maintain order, the protests continued.
With no consensus between the government and the Opposition, both Houses were adjourned several times during the day without transacting significant legislative business.
The government has maintained that it is willing to discuss issues in accordance with parliamentary rules, while urging Opposition parties to allow the House to function normally. Opposition leaders, however, insisted that the issues they raised are of urgent national importance and deserve immediate debate.
The Monsoon Session is expected to witness intense debates in the coming days on education, governance, national security and several key legislative proposals as both the government and the Opposition prepare for a politically charged session.
