Inter State Social Media Fraudsters Arrested

In a major breakthrough, the Mailardevpally Police arrested two inter-state fraudsters involved in cheating and theft cases targeting women through social media and dating applications. The accused allegedly lured victims with false promises of lucrative employment opportunities and exploited their trust for financial gain.

The case came to light following a complaint lodged by Smt. Srivani, a resident of Kattedan, who alleged that she had been cheated by the prime accused, Kudumula Pandu Ranga Rao alias Sunny Naidu. According to police, the accused befriended the complainant through social media platforms, posing as a well connected businessman. He reportedly gained her confidence by offering her a high paying job opportunity.

After establishing a relationship with the victim, the accused allegedly persuaded her to transfer money and later stole her gold Mangalsutram from her residence before absconding.

Acting on credible intelligence and technical evidence, the Mailardevpally Police apprehended both accused persons on June 11, 2026. During the operation, police recovered stolen property and other incriminating material, including gold Mangalsutram ornaments, ₹ 70,000 in cash, a Toyota Etios car, mobile phones, bank cards and gold loan documents, believed to be connected to the offence.

The successful detection of the case was carried out under the supervision of Sri A. Sudhakar, ACP, Chandrayangutta Division. The operation was led by Sri Sathyanarayana, SHO, Mailardevpally Police Station, along with Sri Maqsood Ali, Detective Inspector, and the crime staff.

The investigation team was appreciated by Sri S. Sreenivas, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajendranagar Zone, for their prompt action, effective use of technical evidence, and successful apprehension of the inter state offenders.

Meanwhile, the Rajendranagar Zone Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant while interacting with unknown individuals on social media and dating platforms. They advised the public to avoid sharing personal information, refrain from making financial transactions with unverified persons and verify employment offers through official channels to prevent falling victim to similar frauds.

The case serves as a reminder of the growing threat posed by online fraudsters and the importance of exercising caution in digital interactions.
