Delhi High Court Seeks Centre, CBSE Response on Alleged Class 12 Marking Irregularities

Delhi High Court Seeks Centre CBSE Response

The Delhi High Court on Monday sought responses from the Central Government and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on a petition seeking an independent inquiry into alleged irregularities in the board’s On Screen Marking (OSM) system used for evaluating Class 12 examination answer sheets.

The petition was filed by the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party. It alleges that the newly introduced digital evaluation system suffered from technical issues and discrepancies that may have affected the results of thousands of students across the country.

According to the plea, students reported problems such as blurred scanned answer sheets, missing pages, mismatched answer books, incomplete uploads, and unexpectedly low marks after the declaration of Class 12 results. The petition argues that these issues raise concerns about the Fairness, Transparency and Reliability of the OSM system.

The NSUI has sought an independent investigation into the alleged irregularities and has also requested manual rechecking and physical verification of answer sheets in disputed cases. The petition further seeks reopening of the verification and revaluation portal for affected students.

During the hearing, the Delhi High Court issued notices to the Centre and CBSE and asked them to submit their responses. The matter has been listed for further hearing on June 12.

CBSE has maintained that it is addressing student grievances and questioned the maintainability of the petition, arguing that it was filed by the student wing of a political party.

The case comes amid growing scrutiny of the OSM system, which was introduced to digitally evaluate Class 12 answer sheets by scanning physical answer books and allowing examiners to assess them on computer screens.
