Hyderabad Pilgrims Families Fly to Saudi Arabia for DNA Tests

Hyderabad: The tragic Saudi Arabia bus tanker accident that claimed the lives of dozens of Telangana pilgrims has led to an unprecedented mobilization of support from both the Telangana government and community leaders in Hyderabad.

Families Depart for Saudi Arabia

Around 50 family members of the deceased have departed from Hyderabad to Saudi Arabia to complete DNA procedures, identify the victims and participate in the funeral rites. Officials confirmed that many bodies were burnt beyond recognition, making DNA testing essential before issuing death certificates.

Bodies Preserved, Funeral to Be Held in Saudi Arabia

Saudi authorities have preserved the bodies and a Mass funeral is expected to take place in Saudi Arabia as per religious practices. Telangana officials coordinating the process said that the state government is ensuring every step is handled with dignity and accuracy.

Telangana Government’s Strong Support

The Telangana government has received widespread appreciation for its swift and sensitive response a level of proactive support many say no previous government has ever taken in such tragedies.
Key steps include:

  • Sending a high level delegation led by Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin.
  • Arranging Travel, Documentation and Coordination for affected families.
  • Announcing ₹5 lakh ex gratia for each bereaved family.
  • Setting up control rooms both in Hyderabad and in Saudi Arabia.

Community and AIMIM Support

AIMIM President Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi and Nampally MLA Majid Hussain are closely monitoring the situation. Mallepally Corporator Zafar Khan is stationed near Haj House, assisting families in boarding buses and guiding them through procedures.

Scale of the Tragedy

The accident led to the death of 45 pilgrims from Telangana, including 18 members of a single Hyderabad family, making it one of the most devastating tragedies in recent times.
