Hyderabad remained on high alert on Saturday after fresh tension was reported in the Gudimalkapur, Asif Nagar area ahead of the Bakrid festival. Heavy police deployment and intensified patrolling were seen across several sensitive parts of the Old City following clashes linked to suspected cattle transportation.
According to police sources, the incident began after a lorry was stopped by alleged cow vigilante groups on suspicion of transporting cattle illegally. The driver reportedly claimed that the vehicle was carrying plywood and other materials, not cattle.
The situation quickly escalated as groups gathered at the spot, leading to heated arguments, stone pelting, and clashes in the area. Police rushed to the scene and used mild force to disperse the crowd and prevent further violence.
Several vehicles were reportedly damaged during the unrest, while some police personnel and civilians sustained minor injuries. Additional security forces were later deployed in Gudimalkapur, Asif Nagar, and nearby localities to maintain law and order.
Hyderabad Police officials urged citizens not to spread rumours or inflammatory content on social media. Authorities warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disturb communal harmony during the festival period.
Senior police officers said surveillance and night patrolling have been increased across sensitive areas ahead of Bakrid celebrations. Checkpoints and vehicle inspections are also being conducted in parts of the city as a precautionary measure.
Political reactions also emerged after local leaders visited the clash site and demanded action against those allegedly involved in creating tension.
Police stated that the situation is currently under control, but monitoring continues closely to prevent any further incidents. Authorities appealed to people from all communities to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the festival season.
