Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced a ₹596 crore profit sharing package for workers of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) ahead of Dasara, providing financial benefits to thousands of permanent employees and contract workers.
Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced the decision at Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad on October 13, in the presence of IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu.
According to the announcement, 38,737 permanent employees will receive an average profit sharing amount of ₹1,53,912 each, while 29,717 contract workers will receive ₹5,500 each.
₹596 Crore Allocated From Company Profits
- The government stated that Singareni recorded a net profit of ₹1,754 crore during the 2025-26 financial year. It has decided to distribute 34% of this amount, approximately ₹596 crore, among workers.
- The payment continues the practice of distributing a share of the company’s profits to employees before Dasara.
- However, the amount for permanent employees is lower than last year’s ₹1,95,610, representing a decrease of ₹41,698 per employee. The bonus for contract workers remains unchanged at ₹5,500.
- SCCL is jointly owned by the Telangana government, which holds a 51% stake, and the Government of India, which holds the remaining 49%.
Housing Benefits for Singareni Employees
- Alongside the profit sharing announcement, the government outlined measures to address the long-standing housing needs of Singareni employees and workers.
- Bhatti Vikramarka said officials had been instructed to identify suitable land and prepare plans for housing colonies for eligible beneficiaries.
- The government also referred to approximately 1,250 acres remaining from land previously returned by Singareni to the Revenue Department. Officials have been directed to expedite the process of issuing house-site pattas to eligible beneficiaries under the applicable government orders.
- The implementation of these measures will depend on beneficiary verification, land availability and the prescribed administrative procedures.
Pending Dependent Employment Cases
- The government has also directed Singareni management to expedite pending dependent employment cases.
- According to the Deputy Chief Minister, formalities relating to approximately 250-300 pending cases are expected to be completed within 15 days, followed by appointment orders for eligible candidates.
- These cases are important for families seeking employment assistance under the applicable dependent employment provisions. The proposed timeline and the actual number of appointments will need to be monitored.
Healthcare and Other Employee Welfare Measures
- The government has directed SCCL management to conduct medical board meetings on designated days each month at area hospitals under the company’s jurisdiction.
- The measure is intended to reduce inconvenience for workers seeking medical-invalidation assessments and for eligible families pursuing related employment matters.
- Officials have also been asked to examine issues concerning occupied residential areas and prepare lists of eligible beneficiaries in consultation with the relevant district authorities.
Financial Challenges Facing Singareni
- While announcing the profit sharing package, Bhatti Vikramarka attributed the decline in SCCL’s profits compared with the previous year to factors including lower production and difficulties in expanding mining operations.
- He also criticised the previous BRS government over its handling of coal block opportunities. These statements represent the minister’s political assessment and should not be treated as independently established findings.
- The government said it was pursuing additional coal blocks to support future production and strengthen the company’s operations.
- SCCL’s financial position is important not only for employees but also for the wider Telangana economy, given the company’s role in coal production, power generation supply chains and employment across mining districts.
Why This Matters for Telangana
- The ₹596 crore profit sharing announcement provides direct financial support to permanent employees and contract workers ahead of the festival season.
- At the same time, the proposed housing measures, pending employment cases and medical board arrangements address issues affecting workers and their families beyond the annual bonus.
- The next important developments will be the distribution of the announced payments, progress on housing benefits and the resolution of pending employment cases.
