Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sajjanar felicitates the lifesavers and presents cash rewards

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, felicitated three citizens who rescued a six year old girl from drowning in Hussain Sagar. The ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Police Commissioner’s Office in Basheerbagh. The Commissioner honoured auto rickshaw driver Fakhruddin, private sector employee K. Balakrishna, and businessman Mohammed Afsar by presenting them with shawls and cash rewards in recognition of their timely intervention and courage in saving the child’s life.

A woman from Bowenpally has two daughters, aged eight and six. The younger child had reportedly been suffering from an illness for the past two months. Unable to bear the increasing medical expenses, the mother allegedly became overwhelmed by distress and took a shocking decision to kill her younger daughter.

According to the police, the woman recently brought both children to Upper Tank Bund. She sent the elder daughter away to buy ice cream and, when nobody was watching, allegedly pushed the six year old girl into Hussain Sagar before fleeing the scene.

The girl, who fell into the lake, managed to hold on to a bamboo stick and desperately cried for help, saying, “Save me! My mother pushed me into the water.”

K. Balakrishna, a resident of Moti Nagar in Borabanda, was passing by when he first heard the child’s cries. He immediately alerted people on the road and called for help.

At the same time, Fakhruddin, an auto rickshaw driver residing in Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, was travelling along Upper Tank Bund. Seeing the commotion, he stopped his vehicle. On noticing the girl struggling in the water, he immediately jumped into the lake.

With the assistance of Mohammed Afsar, a resident of Nacharam, Fakhruddin brought the girl out of the water and helped her reach the roadside.

Following the incident, patrolling police personnel arrived at the scene and shifted the child to Gandhi Hospital for medical treatment.

Dommulguda Police have registered an attempted murder case against the mother and are investigating the incident.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Praises the Three Citizens

  • Addressing the gathering, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, praised the courage and presence of mind displayed by the three citizens, describing their actions as an example for society.
  • He observed that, at a time when some people remain busy recording videos on their mobile phones instead of helping those in distress, the three men demonstrated exceptional courage and a strong sense of social responsibility.
  • He particularly appreciated Balakrishna for alerting others and Fakhruddin and Mohammed Afsar for entering the water and rescuing the young girl. He urged everyone to develop a sense of social responsibility and compassion for fellow human beings.

Commissioner Appeals to Parents Facing Difficulties

  • The Commissioner also stressed that illness among children and financial difficulties can place an enormous emotional burden on parents, but taking a child’s life is never a solution.
  • He advised people not to give up in despair when faced with hardship but to seek help from society and government support systems instead of resorting to such extreme actions.
  • “Society is always ready to support those in distress. Nothing is more valuable than life,” he said.

Senior Police Officials Attend the Ceremony

The programme was attended by Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Tapshir Iqbal, IPS; Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) M. Srinivasulu, IPS; Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Joel Davis, IPS; Secunderabad Zone DCP Rakshitha Krishnamurthy, IPS; Gandhinagar ACP Yadagiri; Domulguda Inspector Anjad Ali; and other officials.
