Ayodhya: The investigation into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has intensified, with investigators examining the assets and financial transactions of one of the accused, Lavkush Mishra.
According to investigators and media reports, Lavkush Mishra, who worked as a cash counting staff member at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, reportedly earned around ₹12,000 per month. Authorities are now probing how he allegedly acquired assets that appear disproportionate to his known income.
Documents reviewed during the investigation indicate that a plot of land, reportedly purchased in the name of Mishra’s wife, was acquired after he joined the temple trust. The land was reportedly purchased for around ₹8.8 lakh, while the under construction house on the property is now estimated to be worth approximately ₹25 lakh. Investigators are examining whether these assets were purchased using funds allegedly diverted from temple donations.
Lavkush Mishra is among eight individuals arrested in connection with the alleged theft of donations from the Ram Mandir. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) believes the accused were linked to the temple’s cash counting unit, which handled cash and valuables donated by devotees. Police have recovered a substantial amount of cash during the ongoing investigation and financial records are being scrutinized to determine the source of the accused’s assets.
The probe has also focused on the alleged lifestyle changes of other accused, including reports of expensive properties, farmland and planned vehicle purchases, raising further questions about possible financial irregularities.
Meanwhile, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has stated that it is fully cooperating with the investigation and has assured devotees that the security of temple donations remains a top priority. The Trust has emphasized that those found responsible will face appropriate legal action.
Authorities have stressed that the investigation is ongoing and all allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial scrutiny. No court has yet determined the guilt of any of the accused.
