The Telangana High Court has extended the validity of existing journalist accreditation cards in the state until October 1, 2026.
The court passed the order on Tuesday while hearing petitions challenging the Telangana government’s new media accreditation rules.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice V. Ramakrishna Reddy heard the matter.
Journalist organisations, including the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation, have challenged some parts of the new accreditation rules.
The court’s latest order means journalists who already have valid accreditation cards can continue to use them until October 1.
The issue is related to the Telangana Media Accreditation Rules, 2025, introduced through Government Order (GO) 252. The new rules changed some of the requirements and procedures for journalist accreditation.
The High Court had earlier extended the validity of existing accreditation cards several times while the matter was being considered.
The latest extension gives journalists more time while the court continues to hear the petitions against the new rules.
The final decision on the challenges to the new accreditation system is still pending.
