Three Year Additional Relaxation Announced for Police, Fire Services, Prisons and Special Protection Force Posts
The Telangana government has announced an additional three year relaxation in the upper age limit for direct recruitment to Constable and equivalent posts in the Police, Fire Services, Prisons and Special Protection Force departments.
The decision was issued through Government Order G.O.Ms.No.129 by the General Administration (Services-A) Department on September 9, 2026.
According to the government order, the additional three year relaxation will be applicable over and above the seven year relaxation already provided through earlier government orders. This means eligible candidates for the concerned Constable level posts will receive a total age relaxation of 10 years over the originally prescribed upper age limit.
The government said the decision was taken after examining the difference in the upper age limits prescribed for Sub-Inspectors and Constables in the Home Department.
The new relaxation covers direct recruitment to Constable and equivalent posts in the Police Department, Fire Services, Prisons and Special Protection Force.
However, the order specifically excludes Constable Driver posts in the Police Department from the additional three year relaxation.
The government has introduced the measure through an Ad-hoc Rule under Article 309 of the Constitution of India.
The notification will be published in the Telangana State Gazette and the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board has been directed to take necessary action regarding recruitment.
The order has also been forwarded to the Telangana Public Service Commission, concerned government departments and District Collectors for information and necessary action.
The decision is expected to provide additional opportunities for candidates who were unable to apply for Constable and equivalent posts because of the previously prescribed upper age limit.
