Iran has issued a strong warning to Israel, stating that continued military operations in southern Lebanon could trigger a severe response from Tehran.
In an official statement, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced that the country’s armed forces had suspended their military operations against Israel following what it described as a “painful response” to recent Israeli actions. However, the headquarters stressed that the halt in operations should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness or restraint.
The statement said that if the Israeli military fails to halt its operations in southern Lebanon, it should “Expect a harsh response” from Iran. Iranian authorities warned that any further attacks or what they termed as “aggression and malicious acts” would be met with measures that would be “far more severe and crushing” than previous actions.
According to Iranian officials, the earlier military response was carried out in support of the Lebanese people following Israeli operations in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs. The statement also accused the United States of backing Israeli military activities in the region.
The warning comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East. Recent reports have suggested progress towards a broader understanding between Iran and the United States, including discussions related to regional stability, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and future negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear programme.
However, the situation in Lebanon remains a major point of concern. Iran and its regional allies have repeatedly insisted that Israeli forces must halt their military activities in southern Lebanon, arguing that continued operations could jeopardise fragile peace efforts.
Israel has not officially responded to Iran’s latest warning. Meanwhile, international observers have urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritise diplomatic solutions to prevent a wider regional conflict.
The developments underscore the fragile security environment in the Middle East, where any escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border could have significant consequences for regional stability.
