US President Donald Trump reportedly did not make a final decision on a possible agreement with Iran after a lengthy White House Situation Room meeting, despite earlier indicating that a major breakthrough could be near.
According to reports citing US officials, the high level meeting lasted around two hours and focused on a proposed framework involving Iran’s nuclear activities, maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional tensions.
Before the meeting, Trump posted on social media that he was heading to the Situation Room to make a “Final determination” regarding negotiations with Iran. He also outlined several proposed conditions linked to a potential agreement, including reopening shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and restrictions connected to Iran’s nuclear program.
However, reports later indicated that no final agreement or decision was reached during the discussions. Officials said negotiations remain unresolved, with disagreements reportedly continuing over sanctions relief, Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, frozen Iranian assets and regional security arrangements.
Iranian officials also pushed back against parts of Trump’s public statements, saying no finalized agreement currently exists and that several issues remain under review. Iranian media described some of the reported deal terms as incomplete or one sided interpretations of ongoing discussions.
The developments come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran following months of military escalation, disputes over the Strait of Hormuz and international concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities. The negotiations are being closely watched by global markets because any breakthrough could affect oil prices, sanctions policy and regional stability across the Middle East.
Analysts said the absence of a final decision suggests both sides are still struggling to bridge major political and security differences, despite signs that diplomatic communication remains active.
