India’s anti drug agencies have made a major breakthrough after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized illegal Captagon drugs worth around ₹182 crore during a nationwide operation called “Operation RAGEPILL”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared the information on social media and said the government is fully committed to making India drug free. He praised the NCB and other security agencies for carrying out the operation successfully.
According to officials, this is the first major Captagon seizure in India. Captagon is a dangerous synthetic drug that has become popular in some conflict hit areas of the Middle East. The drug is banned in many countries because it can strongly affect the brain and body.
Investigators said the drug shipment was meant to be sent to Gulf countries through international smuggling routes. A Syrian national has been arrested in connection with the case.
During the investigation, NCB teams first recovered around 31.5 kg of Captagon tablets hidden inside industrial machinery in Delhi’s Neb Sarai area. Later, officials found another 196.2 kg of Captagon powder at Mundra Port in Gujarat. The shipment was reportedly imported from Syria and declared as sheep wool to avoid suspicion.
Officials said the total seizure included around 227.7 kg of Captagon tablets and powder.
Authorities believe international drug smuggling networks were using India as a transit route to move the drugs to Middle Eastern countries. Security agencies are now investigating possible links to larger international criminal groups.
Captagon is known as a stimulant drug that increases energy and alertness. Reports from international agencies have previously linked the drug to illegal trafficking networks operating in war affected regions.
Home Minister Amit Shah said the government will continue taking strict action against drug trafficking and anyone trying to use India for illegal international trade.
The operation is being seen as one of the country’s biggest recent anti drug crackdowns and highlights growing concerns over international synthetic drug smuggling.
