Police in Telangana have issued a public warning about fraudulent messages and calls related to LPG gas cylinder bookings as concerns grow over possible shortages. Authorities say cyber fraudsters are attempting to exploit the situation by sending fake booking links and payment requests to unsuspecting consumers.
According to officials from the Telangana Police, scammers are posing as representatives of major LPG suppliers such as Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. They contact customers through phone calls, SMS or social media messages, claiming that immediate online payment is required to confirm gas cylinder bookings.
Police said these fraudsters often send fake websites or payment links that closely resemble official LPG booking platforms. Once victims enter their banking or card details, the scammers gain access to their financial information and may steal money from their accounts.
Authorities have advised citizens to book LPG cylinders only through official apps, websites or registered distributors. People have also been warned not to click on suspicious links or share personal and banking details with unknown callers.
The police urged the public to remain alert and report suspected scams to the cybercrime helpline or the nearest police station. Officials said awareness is key to preventing such frauds and protecting consumers from financial loss.
