India is exploring alternative sources of crude oil as tensions and military conflict in the Middle East continue to disrupt global energy markets. The ongoing confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States has raised concerns about potential supply disruptions and price volatility in international oil markets.
Officials from India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas have begun reviewing supply options from multiple countries to ensure stable fuel availability. India currently imports more than 80 percent of its crude oil requirements, making it vulnerable to global market fluctuations and geopolitical tensions in key oil producing regions.
Energy experts say that any disruption in shipping routes or production in the Middle East could impact crude prices worldwide. The region remains one of the largest suppliers of oil to Asia, including India. In response, New Delhi is reportedly examining increased imports from countries such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United States to diversify its supply base.
Government officials have also indicated that India’s strategic petroleum reserves could help cushion short term disruptions if global supply chains face further strain. Authorities are closely monitoring crude prices and shipping routes across the Persian Gulf region.
Analysts say India’s strategy focuses on diversification rather than reliance on a single supplier. Over the past few years, the country has expanded its oil procurement network to include a broader range of producers in Europe, Africa and the Americas.
