World Health Organization Warns About Rise in Seasonal Flu Cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning over a noticeable rise in seasonal influenza cases across several regions, urging countries to strengthen surveillance and public health preparedness. Health officials said the increase is being driven by multiple circulating flu strains and lower immunity levels in parts of the population.

According to the WHO, hospitals in some countries are reporting higher than usual patient admissions for flu related complications, particularly among elderly people, young children and individuals with underlying medical conditions. The agency noted that overcrowded clinics and delays in treatment could worsen outcomes if the trend continues.

WHO officials stressed the importance of early detection and vaccination, describing flu shots as the most effective way to reduce severe illness and deaths. They also advised people to practice basic preventive measures such as frequent handwashing, wearing masks in crowded places when unwell, and avoiding close contact with vulnerable individuals if flu like symptoms appear.

Public health experts said climate changes and increased international travel may be contributing to faster spread of the virus this season. In addition, the relaxation of COVID era precautions has led to higher exposure to respiratory infections, including influenza.

The WHO has called on governments to ensure adequate supplies of antiviral medicines and to run public awareness campaigns about flu prevention. It also urged healthcare systems to be prepared for a possible surge in cases in the coming weeks.

Health authorities worldwide are being asked to share updated data with the WHO to help track the spread of the virus and identify any unusual patterns. The organization warned that without timely action, seasonal flu could place heavy pressure on already stretched healthcare services.
