Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Israel this week for a two day official visit, where he will hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The visit is expected to focus on defence, technology, agriculture, cybersecurity and trade, areas in which India and Israel have steadily deepened collaboration over the past decade. Officials from both sides have indicated that the discussions will aim to strengthen strategic and economic ties, with new agreements likely to be explored.
According to an analysis by Al Jazeera, relations between India and Israel have grown significantly, even as Israel faces intense international criticism over its military campaign in Gaza. The conflict has drawn widespread condemnation from rights groups and several governments, while Israel has rejected allegations of war crimes and says its actions are aimed at security threats.
India has historically supported the Palestinian cause but has, in recent years, pursued closer engagement with Israel, particularly in defence procurement and intelligence sharing. Analysts note that New Delhi has attempted to balance its traditional diplomatic stance with its strategic partnership with Tel Aviv, avoiding sharp public criticism while calling for restraint and humanitarian access.
During the visit, Modi and Netanyahu are expected to review existing projects and discuss regional security developments, as well as broader geopolitical challenges. The trip underlines the steady shift in India’s Middle East policy, where practical cooperation has increasingly taken priority over ideological alignment.
Observers say the meeting will signal continuity in India-Israel relations, even as the war in Gaza continues to shape global diplomatic debates and public opinion.
