Ajit Pawar Aircraft Incident Row: Opposition Seeks Transparent Probe

Ajit Pawar Aircraft Incident Row

Mumbai: A political controversy has erupted after claims surfaced about an alleged aircraft incident involving Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, with opposition parties demanding a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his travel. The state government, however, has rejected allegations of any crash or sabotage, calling the claims misleading and politically motivated.

Reports circulating on social media suggested that an aircraft carrying Ajit Pawar faced a serious technical issue during travel, prompting speculation about safety lapses. While officials clarified that there was no crash, critics argued that the public deserved full disclosure of what exactly occurred.

Senior opposition leaders questioned whether standard aviation safety procedures were followed and urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to make its findings public. Congress leaders said the matter should not be brushed aside and called for an independent inquiry to rule out negligence or mechanical failure. Some leaders even sought a court-monitored probe, citing public interest and the need for institutional accountability.

“Whenever a senior constitutional functionary is involved, transparency is essential. The government must place all facts before the people,” a Congress spokesperson said.

Responding to the controversy, leaders from the ruling alliance dismissed the allegations, stating that Ajit Pawar’s travel was routine and that no emergency situation occurred. They accused the opposition of politicising a non-issue to create panic and mistrust.

The Civil Aviation Ministry said that aviation authorities would review flight logs and technical data as part of standard protocol and assured that any irregularity would be investigated as per law.

Political analysts say the episode reflects growing distrust between rival parties and the tendency to turn travel or security issues into political flashpoints. They noted that while demanding accountability is legitimate, spreading unverified claims risks misleading the public.

As calls for transparency grow, officials have reiterated that a factual statement will be released once technical checks are completed, urging restraint until verified information is available.
