TVK Alliance Talks Trigger Major Political

Tamil Nadu politics has become increasingly tense after alliance discussions involving Vijay and his party TVK created major controversy following the 2026 Assembly election results.

After emerging as the single largest party but falling short of a majority, TVK began exploring support options to form the government. The biggest political debate started after both the Congress and AIADMK signaled willingness to support Vijay’s party.

The Congress party extending support to TVK triggered criticism from several political groups and social media supporters who questioned whether the alliance would match TVK’s original “Alternative politics” image. Some critics argued that aligning with Congress could weaken TVK’s claim of bringing a completely new political culture to Tamil Nadu.

At the same time, AIADMK’s offer of “Unconditional support” created another controversy. A section of TVK supporters opposed any understanding with AIADMK, arguing that Vijay had campaigned as a fresh alternative to both Dravidian giants DMK and AIADMK. Political commentators said accepting AIADMK support could confuse TVK’s core voter base.

The situation became more complicated after AIADMK reportedly withdrew its support offer, claiming TVK did not give a clear response. This led to speculation about internal disagreements within both parties and uncertainty over whether serious alliance talks were actually progressing.

Meanwhile, the DMK strongly criticized the ongoing alliance discussions, accusing rival parties of focusing only on power sharing instead of policy and governance. DMK leaders claimed TVK was facing pressure to compromise its political ideology in order to secure enough MLAs to form the government.

Another controversy emerged around reports of MLAs being moved to resorts and intense behind-the-scenes negotiations. Opposition parties accused each other of attempting defections and “Resort politics” to influence government formation.

Political analysts say TVK now faces a difficult challenge:

  • If it allies with Congress, it may gain stability but risk criticism from anti Congress voters.
  • If it accepts AIADMK support, it may face backlash from supporters who expected a complete break from old Dravidian politics.
  • If it refuses both, forming a stable government could become difficult.

The alliance controversy has now become one of the biggest political talking points in Tamil Nadu, with public attention focused on whether Vijay can balance political practicality with the image of change that helped TVK rise rapidly in the elections.
