New Delhi: PIB Sensesemi Technologies Private Limited and GridCrest Technologies Private Limited have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore smart metering solutions, marking another development in India’s efforts to expand the use of domestically designed semiconductor technologies.
The collaboration was announced during SEMICON India 2026, where several agreements and initiatives were unveiled to strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
The partnership focuses on the smart metering sector, an important application area for semiconductor based technologies. Smart meters can use specialised chips and systems to support functions such as electricity measurement, communication, monitoring and data processing.
The development comes as India seeks to strengthen its domestic semiconductor design capabilities and move from chip design and development towards wider commercial applications.
Sensesemi Technologies is based in Bengaluru, while GridCrest Technologies is based in Delhi. Their MoU covers the development of smart metering solutions.
The collaboration is part of the broader Semicon 2.0 push, which aims to develop a stronger semiconductor ecosystem in India, covering design, manufacturing, packaging, research and development, equipment and skilled talent.
The partnership could provide a pathway for Indian semiconductor design capabilities to reach practical applications in the energy and metering sector. However, the MoU should not be interpreted as confirmation that these solutions have already been deployed at large scale.
Further details regarding commercial deployment, timelines and the scale of the smart metering solutions are expected as the collaboration progresses.
