Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has cited a recent United Nations inquiry report alleging that more than 20,000 Palestinian children have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 and called for accountability over Israel’s military actions in the territory.
In a post on social media platform X on Wednesday, Owaisi accused Israel of causing large-scale civilian suffering in Gaza and said those responsible would eventually have to answer for their actions. His remarks came after the release of findings by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel.
According to the commission’s report, at least 20,179 Palestinian children were killed between October 2023 and October 2025, accounting for nearly 30% of the total reported deaths in Gaza during that period. The inquiry alleged that Israeli authorities and security forces deliberately targeted Palestinian children, actions that it said could amount to genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
Justice Srinivasan Muralidhar, who chairs the commission, stated that the evidence indicated Palestinian children had been deliberately targeted during the conflict. The report also highlighted the humanitarian impact of the war, including displacement, shortages of food and medicine, psychological trauma and damage to healthcare facilities.
However, Israel has strongly rejected the findings, describing the report as biased and defamatory. Israeli officials maintain that the military targets Hamas and other armed groups, not civilians, and argue that Hamas operates from densely populated areas, making military operations more complex. Israel has also accused the commission of ignoring the role of Hamas in the conflict.
The latest report adds to growing international debate over the conduct of the Gaza war, which began after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The conflict has since drawn scrutiny from international organizations, human rights groups and governments around the world.
Owaisi’s remarks are among the strongest reactions from an Indian political leader to the latest UN findings and are likely to reignite discussions over the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the international response to the ongoing conflict.
