Hyderabad City Police have detained Sunil Bahadur Aauji, also known as Sunil Pariyar, under the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities (PD) Act in connection with the alleged murder for gain of 62 year old Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Ray Vinay Ranjan, within the limits of Jubilee Hills Police Station.
According to Hyderabad City Police, the detention order was issued by the Commissioner of Police on August 10, 2026, under Section 3(2) of the Telangana Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act, 1986. The accused was detained on August 11 and lodged in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Alleged Role in Murder-for-Gain Case
- Police said Aauji, a 29 year old car driver originally from Achham district in Nepal and currently residing in Navi Mumbai, came under investigation in a serious murder for gain case registered at Jubilee Hills Police Station.
- The case has been registered under Sections 103(1), 309(2) and 317(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
- According to the police, Aauji allegedly acted along with associates as part of a criminal conspiracy. The group allegedly entered Tanuja Ranjan’s residence, restrained and suffocated her to death and escaped with gold ornaments and other valuables.
- Police arrested Aauji on May 22, 2026, following the investigation and he was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
- The allegations are subject to the ongoing legal process and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
Other Criminal Cases
Hyderabad Police said Aauji had also come to adverse notice in two other cases registered in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
➤ FIR No. 11202008242284/2024 was registered at A Division Police Station in Jamnagar district, Gujarat, under Sections 331(4), 305(a) and 54 of the BNS.
➤ FIR No. 611/2024 was registered at Naigaon Police Station in Maharashtra under Sections 331(3), 331(4) and 3(5) of the BNS.
Police said the PD Act detention was based on the nature and seriousness of the alleged offences and the material placed before the competent authority in accordance with law.
Police Warn Organised Offenders
- Hyderabad City Police said the detention was intended to prevent activities that could threaten public order and the safety and security of citizens.
- Police reiterated that stringent legal action would be taken against habitual and organised offenders whose alleged activities pose a threat to public safety and public order.
- The latest detention comes as Hyderabad Police continue to focus on identifying and taking preventive action against individuals allegedly involved in organised and serious criminal activities.
