Hyderabad: Goshamahal Police have arrested a private financier for allegedly cheating, extorting and intimidating a borrower while attempting to recover money through illegal means. The accused has been identified as Mukesh (55). Another accused, Vikas Singh, is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.
According to the police, the case was registered as Crime No. 246/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to cheating, criminal intimidation, extortion and harassment.
The case was initiated following a complaint from a borrower who alleged that he had taken a loan of ₹4.5 lakh from the accused on interest. Despite regularly paying the agreed interest, the financier allegedly demanded additional money unlawfully. When the complainant failed to meet the demand, the accused reportedly trespassed into his residence, abused and threatened family members, and attempted to coerce the complainant into withdrawing the police complaint.
During the investigation, Goshamahal Police apprehended Mukesh and seized a Jio basic mobile phone, blank bond papers, along with the complainant’s Aadhaar card and photograph, which were allegedly retained by the accused.
The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police said efforts are continuing to arrest the absconding accused, Vikas Singh, and further investigation is in progress.
Police have also issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid borrowing money from unauthorised private financiers who charge exorbitant interest rates. People facing harassment, intimidation or illegal loan recovery practices have been advised to immediately report such incidents to the nearest police station.
