KTR Targets Revanth Over Procurement Policy

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging that the state’s latest crop procurement policy would severely harm farmers and accusing the government of betraying the farming community.

Speaking at party workers meetings in Warangal district, KTR claimed that Revanth Reddy had “signed a death warrant for Telangana farmers” by deciding to procure paddy only within the limits approved by the Central government. He argued that the Congress government was now following the same Centre-led policies that it had previously criticized when it was in opposition.

KTR alleged that farmers are facing multiple problems, including fertilizer shortages, seed shortages, delays in the Rythu Bharosa scheme, power supply issues and concerns over crop procurement. He said the government’s policies were pushing the agricultural sector into uncertainty.

The BRS leader further accused the Congress government of focusing on political vendetta instead of governance and claimed that Telangana had moved from a welfare driven model under the previous BRS administration to a period of crisis affecting several sections of society.

Government’s Position

The controversy comes weeks after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy demanded that the Central government procure Telangana’s paddy, maize and jowar stocks, arguing that the Centre should take responsibility for purchasing the produce. He had also warned of agitation if procurement demands were not met.

The Congress government has maintained that it is working to support farmers through procurement operations and welfare schemes, while also pressing the Centre for greater assistance in handling agricultural stocks.

Political Significance

The remarks reflect the continuing political battle between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, with farmer welfare and crop procurement emerging as key issues in Telangana. Both parties are attempting to position themselves as defenders of farmers interests amid concerns over procurement, support schemes and agricultural incomes.
